In case you haven't heard, Lehman has been the focus of much discussion politically, and in the media. This site, as well as our wayward brethren at 19credits were mentioned in an article for an education blog, gothamschools.org. The story was then picked up by our local media outlets (the Daily News, NY Times, WCBS Television, etc). But it seems that the machinations of those looking to blight the school in the media may be more productive than they expected. We'll see just what is uncovered in Department of Education investigations, but I would hazzard to guess what is uncovered will be a cast of characters as productive as my last bowel movement.

There is a situation at our school fellow Lehman-ites. We need to think productively as to how to find solutions to an already troubling pattern of behavior. Let us put all of the foolishness aside and come to the table with solutions. Grades may or may not have been changed for the wrong reasons, this is not what we -here- should be discussing. What I would like us to discuss is, in light of the current situation, what should be the protocol on changing grades? What went wrong (as you see it) and what should have been the proper course of action?

i think the issue was that protocol was not followed at all. the protocol is not ours to design as it already exists - admin just didn't follow it, and we didn't notice it.

this is probably something that should be discussed by the school leadership team or at a union meeting.

but perhaps it is something that we need to discuss and make clear...it is supposed to be a school community, all the stake holders need to be on board.

I think Leder had that school running the way it was suppose to.. until they stuck a monkey wrench in it! I myself was a student at Lehman High School. It was some of the best years of my life. I've learned so much and experienced so much. Both Mr. Leder and most of the faculty wanted all students to get the MOST that we can get out of life and helped us to do that along the way. I hear other peoples stories about their High School experiences but none of it compares to the ones I had in Lehman. We were like a family at that school there was so much support. Yes they (faculty & staff) knew majority of the students were from THE BRONX and perhaps some were a little too "ghetto" for the "bourgeois" class. However we all worked hard to get our grades and worked hard for EVERYTHING we earned in that school. I wanted to go to school. It saddens me to hear that students no longer want to walk the halls of Lehman anymore. What happened? Every faculty and/or staff had taught me something in the 4 years that I was there. What are you teaching them now? Handing out diplomas like your handing out cupcakes? it's absurd! Lehman was the only GOOD school in the bronx and now your turning it into every other school. It's a shame. Lehman gave students hope for a better place and hope for a better future they NEED to know there is more in life but they have to work for it.....

Sincerely yours,
A Lehman Lion

I agree that Leder did have a special way about him, and made the school a safe and nice place to be. That being said... the 2006 the 4 year grad rate was at 47%...

Let's remember that a growing trend not only at Lehman but across the country is that numbers can be screwed.
